5 Emails to Send This Summer

Yesterday my daughter looked at me and said, “This year is going by so fast - it's already almost July!”

Little does she know that uttering those words can spike anxiety in any nonprofit fundraiser 🥵.

So then I looked online and saw that Giving Tuesday is in 173 days.

Maybe that feels like a long time from now? Maybe that feels like tomorrow.

An effective fundraiser understands one thing better than someone struggling to raise money for their nonprofit: fundraising is relational.

Since I recommend at least a 90 day warm-up period for my nonprofit clients - 173 days is going to fly by fast. 💨

Here are 5 warm-up emails you can send to your donors and potential donors this summer.

1. The Gratitude Email

The truth is…donors lie all the time.

They will say things like, “Oh - don't worry about sending me a thank you note…” and then they never donate again. 😖

Compare that to the research that shows when you thank a donor within 48-hours of their gift coming in - they are 4X more likely of making a second gift.

That's why it's time to get ✨radical✨ with your gratitude this summer even if you missed the boat on thanking your donors right after their last donation.

2. The Fund Transparency Email

Talking about how your org spends money is a way to communicate impact.

Stop trying to pretend like you and your nonprofit organization don't spend money. You do - probably a lot of it. 100% of the money you spend is what makes you able to have the incredible impact you have on the world 365 days a year.

Use this template to tell your donors about that impact this summer which will help give you a leg to stand on when it's time to ask for support come Q3 and Q4.

3. The “10 Things You Didn’t Know” Email

You might *think* people know everything there is to know about your org, but trust me - they don’t. Use the summer to bring them closer by sharing some fun facts about your impact, history and more.

4. The Team Intro Email

People give to people. People also power your work. By introducing your team to your subscribers - you are bringing your subscribers in to your work.

5. The Statistic Email

Tell your email subscribers something they don’t know by sharing facts, figures and numbers.

Storytelling + stats is a winning recipe for getting people to know, like and trust you enough to make a donation to your organization. Donors are trying to understand why you need their financial support which means it's YOUR job to explain it to them. Use this email to present some cold, hard facts about the problem you are working to solve - it makes it a no brainer to get involved.
